Protective effect of tanshinone II A on signal transduction system protein kinase B in rats with myocardial

摘要: The effects of tanshinone II A on cell signal transduction system protein kinase B in rats with myocardial hypertrophy induced by the abdominal aorta partial coarctation were investigated. Rat models of myocardial hypertrophy were established by using abdominal aorta partial coarctation method. Forty-eight rats were randomly divided into sham group (S group), model group (M group), valsartan treatment group (X group), low-dose tanshinone treatment group (LD group), medium-dose tanshinone treatment group (MD group), and high-dose tanshinone treatment group (HD group) (=8 in each group). Left ventricular mass index (LVMI), left ventricular posterior wall (LVPW), and septal thickness (IVS) were detected by high frequency ultrasonography. Myocardial fiber diameter (MFD) was examined by Hematoxylin-Eosin (HE) staining, and the contents of phosphorylated protein kinase B (p-Akt) and p-Gsk3β in myocardium were assayed by Western blot. The results showed that compared with S group, the values of LVMI, LVPW, IVS and MFD were increased in other groups (<0.05), and the contents of p-Akt, and p-Gsk3β were also increased in other groups. As compared with MD group, the values of LVMI, LVPW, IVS and MFD were decreased in all treatment groups (<0.05), and the contents of p-Akt, and p-Gsk3β were also decreased in all treatment groups. However, there were no significant differences among LD, MD, and HD groups (>0.05), and there were no significant differences between X group and tanshinone treatment groups (>0.05). It was suggested that tanshinone II A could prevent myocardial hypertrophy by its action on the Akt signaling pathway.

摘要: Cobalt and copper recovery from aqueous Co(II) and Cu(II) is one critical step for cobalt and copper wastewaters treatment. Previous tests have primarily examined Cu(II) and Co(II) removal in microbial electrolysis cells (MECs) with abiotic cathodes and driven by microbial fuel cell (MFCs). However, Cu(II) and Co(II) removal rates were still slow. Here we report MECs with biocathodes and driven by MFCs where enhanced removal rates of 6.0±0.2 mg?L ?h for Cu(II) at an initial concentration of 50 mg?L and 5.3±0.4 mg?L h for Co(II) at an initial 40 mg?L were achieved, 1.7 times and 3.3 times as high as those in MECs with abiotic cathodes and driven by MFCs. Species of Cu(II) was reduced to pure copper on the cathodes of MFCs whereas Co(II) was removed associated with microorganisms on the cathodes of the connected MECs. Higher Cu(II) concentrations and smaller working volumes in the cathode chambers of MFCs further improved removal rates of Cu(II) (115.7 mg?L ?h ) and Co(II) (6.4 mg?L ?h ) with concomitantly achieving hydrogen generation (0.05±0.00 mol?mol COD). Phylogenetic analysis on the biocathodes indicates dominantly accounted for 67.9% of the total reads, followed by (14.0%), (6.1%), (2.5%), (1.4%), and (1.0%). This study provides a beneficial attempt to achieve simultaneous enhanced Cu(II) and Co(II) removal, and efficient Cu(II) and Co(II) wastewaters treatment without any external energy consumption.

A microextraction approach for rapid extraction and separation of Mn(II) and Co(II) using saponified

摘要: In this paper, we proposed a microextraction approach for the extraction and separation of Mn(II) and Co(II) from sulfate solution simulating leachate of spent lithium-ion battery cathode materials using saponified di-(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid system. The effects of the following operational variables were investigated: equilibrium pH, tri-n-butyl phosphate concentration, saponification rate, two-phase ratio and residence time. The results showcased that the microextractor can reach the extraction equilibrium within 20 s, thereby greatly reducing necessary extraction time comparing to that of conventional processes. The volumetric mass transfer coefficient showed 8–21 times larger than that of batch device. With the help of microextractor, 95% of Mn(II) was extracted with a single theoretical stage at a chosen two-phase ratio of 3:1, and the separation factor βMn/Co was as large as 65.5. In the subsequent stripping step, more than 99% of manganese from loaded phase was easily stripped under optimal conditions. The microextraction approach greatly enhances the mass transfer while enabling a continuous and controllable extraction process within a simple structure design. When extracting spent electrode material with microextractors, the comprehensive recovery of mangenese can reach 96%. The microextraction approach has a good applicability in the spent lithium-ion battery cathode materials recycling at both bench and industrial scales.

Approaching the binding between Cu(II) and aerobic granules by a modified titration and µ-XRF

摘要: Interactions between metals and activated sludge can substantially affect the fate and transport of heavy metals in wastewater treatment plants. Therefore, it is important to develop a simple, fast and efficient method to elucidate the interaction. In this study, a modified titration method with a dynamic mode was developed to investigate the binding of Cu(II), a typical heavy metal, onto aerobic granules. The titration results indicated that pH and ionic strength both had a positive effect on the biosorption capacity of the granular sludge. The -XRF results demonstrated that the distribution of metals on the granular surface was heterogeneous, and Cu showed strong correlations and had the same “hot spots” positions with other metal ions (e.g., Ca, Mg, Fe etc.). Ion exchange and complexing were the main mechanisms for the biosorption of Cu(II) by aerobic granules. These results would be beneficial for better understanding of Cu(II) migration and its fate in wastewater treatment plants.

Multi-objective optimization of a hybrid distributed energy system using NSGA-II algorithm

摘要:

In this paper, a multi-objective optimization model is established for the investment plan and operation management of a hybrid distributed energy system. Considering both economic and environmental benefits, the overall annual cost and emissions of CO2 equivalents are selected as the objective functions to be minimized. In addition, relevant constraints are included to guarantee that the optimized system is reliable to satisfy the energy demands. To solve the optimization model, the non-dominated sorting generic algorithm II (NSGA-II) is employed to derive a set of non-dominated Pareto solutions. The diversity of Pareto solutions is conserved by a crowding distance operator, and the best compromised Pareto solution is determined based on the fuzzy set theory. As an illustrative example, a hotel building is selected for study to verify the effectiveness of the optimization model and the solving algorithm. The results obtained from the numerical study indicate that the NSGA-II results in more diversified Pareto solutions and the fuzzy set theory picks out a better combination of device capacities with reasonable operating strategies.

Removal of Ni(II) ions from wastewater by micellar enhanced ultrafiltration using mixed surfactants

摘要: Ni(II) ions were removed from aqueous waste using micellar enhanced ultrafiltration (MEUF) with a mixture of surfactants. The surfactant mixture was the nonionic surfactant Tween 80 (TW80) mixed with the anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) in different molar ratios ranging from 0.1–1.5. The operational variables of the MEUF process such as pH, applied pressure, surfactant to metal ion ratio and nonionic to ionic surfactant molar ratio (α) were evaluated. Rejection of Ni and TW80 was 99% and 98% respectively whereas that for SDS was 65%. The flux and all resistances (fouling resistance, resistance due to concentration polarization) were measured and calculated for entire range of α respectively. A calculated flux was found to be declined with time, which was mainly attributed to concentration polarization rather than resistance from membrane fouling.

Optimization of microwave-assisted extraction for picroside I and picroside II from

摘要: The response surface methodology was employed to study the optimization of microwave-assisted extraction of picroside I and picroside II from Royle rhizomes. The effects of solid to solvent ratio, and extraction temperature, time and solvent on the yields of picroside I and picroside II have been investigated using Box-Behnken experimental design. The experimental data were fitted to second-order polynomial equations using multiple regression analysis and analyzed using the appropriate statistical method. By solving the regression equation and analyzing 3-D plots, the optimum extraction conditions were found to be: solid to solvent ratio, 10 : 90 (w/v); temperature, 60 °C; and extraction time, 60 s. Under the optimal conditions, the yields of picroside I and picroside II are 41.23 and 6.12 mg·g feed respectively, which are in good agreement with the predicted values. The ratio of solid to solvent significantly affects the yields of picroside I and picroside II. Application of microwave-assisted extraction of picroside I and picroside II from would dramatically reduce extraction time and solvent consumption.

Microfluidic synthesis of renewable biosorbent with highly comprehensive adsorption performance for copper (II

摘要: A microsphere biosorbent with uniform size (CV= 1.52%), controllable morphology and component, and high mechanical strength was synthesized from chitosan by microfluidic technology combining with chemical crosslinking and solvent extraction. This chitosan microsphere (CS-MS) was prepared with a two-step solidification process, which was acquired by drying for the enhancement of mechanical property in final. The adsorption behavior of CS-MS towards copper (II) and main influencing factors on adsorption performance were investigated by batch experiments. Kinetic data highlighted dominant chemical bonding along with electrons transferring in adsorption process. Isothermal analysis indicated that adsorption capacity was relevant to the number of active site. All these explorations provided a new direction for preparing highly comprehensive performance sorbent used in heavy metal treatment via microfluidic technology.

Efficient removal of Cr(VI) and Pb(II) from aqueous solution by magnetic nitrogen-doped carbon

摘要: The magnetic nitrogen-doped carbon (MNC) was prepared from polypyrrole by a simple high temperature calcination process in this paper. The structure and properties of MNC were analyzed by scanning electron microscope, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, Brunner Emmet Teller, vibrating sample magnetometer, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The capacity of MNC to adsorb Cr(VI) and Pb(II) was evaluated. The effects of the initial pH, dosage, concentration and temperature on the adsorption capacity of MNC were measured. MNC had a large specific surface area and a special porous structure. Its nitrogen and carbon sources were rich, and the ratio of carbon to nitrogen was fixed. The maximum Cr(VI)-adsorption capacity and maximum Pb(II) adsorption capacity of MNC could reach 456.63 and 507.13 mg∙g at 318 K, respectively. The pseudo-second-order model was used to describe the adsorption kinetics of MNC, and the Freundlich model was employed to discuss its isotherms. The adsorption process was affected by the electrostatic force, the reducing reaction, pores and chelation. The results of this study suggest that MNC is a material with superior performance, and is very easily regenerated, reused, and separated in the adsorption process.

摘要: The biosorption properties of dead sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB) for the removal of Cu(II) and Fe(III) from aqueous solutions was studied. The effects of the biosorbent concentration, the initial pH value and the temperature on the biosorption of Cu(II) and Fe(III) by the SRB were investigated. FTIR analysis verified that the hydroxyl, carbonyl and amine functional groups of the SRB biosorbent were involved in the biosorption process. For both Cu(II) and Fe(III), an increase in the SRB biosorbent concentration resulted in an increase in the removal percentage but a decrease in the amount of specific metal biosorption. The maximum specific metal biosorption was 93.25 mg?g at pH 4.5 for Cu(II) and 88.29 mg?g at pH 3.5 for Fe(III). The temperature did not have a significant effect on biosorption. In a binary metal system, the specific biosorption capacity for the target metal decreased when another metal ion was added. For both the single metal and binary metal systems, the biosorption of Cu(II) and Fe(III) onto a SRB biosorbent was better represented by a Langmuir model than by a Freundlich model.

Urotensin II receptor antagonist reduces hepatic resistance and portal pressure through enhanced eNOS-dependent

摘要: Increased serum urotensin II (UII) levels in human cirrhotic populations have been recently shown, but the long-term effects of UII receptor antagonist on the cirrhosis have not been investigated. To investigate the therapeutic effects of urotensin II receptor (UT) antagonist palosuran on rats with carbon tetrachloride (CCl )-induced cirrhosis, the hepatic and systemic hemodynamics, liver fibrosis, the metalloproteinase-13 (MMP-13)/ tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1) ratio, hepatic Rho-kinase activity, and the endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) activity are measured in CCl -cirrhotic rats treated with palosuran or vehicle for 4 weeks. Primary hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) are used to investigate the changes in UII/UT expression and the effect of palosuran. Compared with the vehicle-treated cirrhotic rats, treatment with palosuran can reduce the portal pressure (PP), decrease the risk of liver fibrosis and the level of α smooth muscle actin, collagen-I (COL-I), and transforming growth factor β expression. However, treatment with palosuran can increase MMP-13/TIMP-1, p-vasodilator-stimulated phosphoprotein (p-VASP), and p-eNOS expression. Moreover, UII/UT mRNA expression increases during HSC activation. MMP-13/TIMP-1, COL-I, and p-VASP are inhibited after palosuran treatment. Our data indicate that long-term administration of palosuran can decrease PP in cirrhosis, which results from decreased hepatic fibrosis and enhanced eNOS-dependent HSC vasodilatation.

Influence of β-elemene on the secretion of angiotensin II and expression of AT1R in hepatic stellate

摘要: This study aims to investigate the influence of β-elemene on the secretion of angiotensin II (ANG II) and the expression of angiotensin receptor type 1 (AT1R) in hepatic stellate cells (HSCs). , HSC-T6 were cultured for 24 hours and then treated with different doses of β-elemene (2.5, 5 and 10 mg/L). A control group was also set up. The secretion of ANG II in the supernatant was detected by radioimmunoassay. The mRNA expression of AT1R at 4, 12 and 24 h after treatment was detected by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), respectively. The protein expression of AT1R was detected by western blot. At the 4th h, the ANG II secretion in the supernatant was significantly inhibited by 10 mg/L β-elemene compared with the control group ( <0.05), while 5.0 mg/L and 2.5 mg/L β-elemene had no inhibitory effect on the secretion of ANG II ( >0.05). At the time point of the 12th h, the secretion of ANG II in the supernatant treated with 10 mg/L and 5.0 mg/L β-elemene was significantly lower than the control ( <0.01, <0.05). Following the treatment with 5.0 mg/L and 2.5 mg/L β-elemene for 24 h, significant inhibition of ANG II secretion was observed ( <0.05), but 10 mg/L β-elemene had no such effect. β-elemene significantly reduced the amount of AT1R mRNA in HSCs after the treatment for 4, 12, and 24 h in a dose-dependent manner. The expression of AT1R protein also decreased after the treatment with β-elemene for 24 h. β-elemene can inhibit the secretion of ANG II and the gene and protein expression of AT1R, which may be the mechanism by which β-elemene prevents the progress of hepatic fibrosis.

Biosorption of Cu(II) to extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) from

摘要: Biosorption of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) from sp. (cyanobacterium) with Cu(II) was investigated using fluorescence spectroscopy. Three fluorescence peaks were found in the excitation-emission matrix (EEM) fluorescence spectra of EPS. Fluorescence of peak A (Ex/Em= 275/452 nm) and peak C (Ex/Em= 350/452 nm) were originated from humic-like substances and fluorescence of peak B (Ex/Em= 275/338 nm) was attributed to protein-like substances. Fluorescence of peaks A, B, and C could be quenched by Cu(II). The effective quenching constants (lg K ) were 2.8–5.84 for peak A, 6.4–9.24 for peak B, and 3.48–6.68 for peak C, respectively. The values of lg K showed a decreasing trend with increasing temperature, indicating that the quenching processes were static in nature. The binding constants (lg K ) followed the order of peak A>peak B>peak C, implying that the humic-like substances in EPS have greater Cu(II) binding capacity than the protein-like substances. The binding site number, , in EPS-Cu(II) complexes for peaks A, B, and C was less than 1. This suggests the negative cooperativity between multiple binding sites and the presence of more than one Cu binding site.
